Jennings Bed Bug

 
Description:

This fly can be tied as a hex or a stonefly pattern and is very effective on salmon and steelhead. Not a lot of materials make this an efficient tie. Created by local guide Jeff Jennings

 

Material List:
  1. Hook: caddis/scud hook size #6 and #8
  2. Thread: tan 6/0 or similar
  3. Tail: 10-12 pheasant tail barbs
  4. Abdomen:thread tied back on pheasant to base of tail then back up to thorax forming a cigar shape
  5. Abdomen case: rest of pheasant barbs
  6. Wing case: 10 pheasant tail barbs
  7. Thorax:SLF dubbing in Gold, rust, or olive
  8. Legs: pheasant tail barbs
Tying Steps:
  1. Tie in 10-12 pheasant tail barbs twice as long as "normal" tail
  2. wrap thread up the abdomen making a cigar shaped body
  3. Bring the rest of the pheasant tail barbs over and tie off for abdomen case
  4. tie in 10 more pheasant tail barbs for wingcase
  5. using dubbing loop, tie in SLF dubbing for a thorax
  6. bring over and tie off wingcase
  7. split and tie back remaining barbs from the wingcase to create legs
  8. done
  9. substitue gray thread, black pheasant, and peacock or black SLF for the stonefly pattern
